چکیده مقاله:

Background and Aims: radicular cyct(RC), dentigerus cyct(DC) and odontogenic keratocyct(OKC) are the most common odontogenic cycts, respectively. Awareness of the clinical and histopathological characteristics of these lesions is very important in dental treatments, that inflammatory cell infiltration can play an important role in DC and OKCthese odontogenic cysts’ clinical presentationspathogenesis. Materials and Methods: In this descriptive-analytic study, 396 patient’s files (216 RC, 90 inflammatory DC and 90 inflammatory OKC) histopathologicaly were examined by two oral and maxillofacial pathologists simultaneously for evaluation the epithelium thickness, type and degree of inflammatory infiltration. The data were analysed using spss software using Spearman and Mann-Whitney tests. Results: Histopathologicaly the cyst linings were mainly normal in DC and RC and atrophic in OKC and RC. In all three cycts, sever inflammation were more common. There were a significant relation with epithelial thickness and degree of inflammation in RC (Pvalue=0.004). In RC, mixed inflammation with plasma cell predominance was seen while, chronic inflammation with dominance of lymphocyte were presented in 2 other cysts. Conclusion: it seems, thickness of epithelium has been atrophic in periapical cyst and inflammatory odontogenic cyct and it would be normal in inflamed Dentigerous cyst. There was a reverse relationship between epithelial thickness and degree of inflammation in periapical cyct.

Quantitative analysis of the epithelial lining architecture in radicular cysts and odontogenic keratocysts

BACKGROUND This paper describes a quantitative analysis of the cyst lining architecture in radicular cysts (of inflammatory aetiology) and odontogenic keratocysts (thought to be developmental or neoplastic) including its 2 counterparts: solitary and associated with the Basal Cell Naevus Syndrome (BCNS). METHODS Epithelial linings from 150 images (from 9 radicular cysts, 13 solitary keratocyst...

Dentigerous Cyst of Inflammatory Origin

A dentigerous cyst encloses a crown of an unerupted tooth by its follicle and is attached to the neck of the tooth. They may be of developmental or inflammatory origin. Dentigerous cyst of inflammatory origin occurs in immature tooth as a result of inflammation from preceding non-vital deciduous tooth or from other source spreading to involve the tooth follicle. These are diagnosed in the first...

Myofibroblasts in calcifying odontogenic cyst and dentigerous cyst

Introduction:Calcifying odontogenic cyst (COC) is an odontogenic cyst that sometimes shows aggressive behavior, while dentigerous cyst (DC) always has a benign nonaggressive course. There are evidences that myofibroblasts are involved in invasion and their role in biologic behavior of odontogenic cysts has been less understood. So, the aim of the present study was to compare th...

Expression of Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor by Odontogenic Cysts: A comparative Study of Dentigerous Cyst and Odontogenic Keratocyst

Abstract: Background and Aim: Compare with Dentigerous cyst, Odontogenic Keratocyst is one of exclusive developmental cyst with unique clinical and histopathologic features. Considering the determining role of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) in cell proliferation and survival, and the controversial results of previous studies regarding the expression of this marker by the odontogenic cy...

Claudin expression and tight junction protein localization in the lining epithelium of the keratocystic odontogenic tumors, dentigerous cysts, and radicular cysts.

OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to evaluate the expression and localization of tight junction proteins (TJPs) or claudins in the keratocystic odontogenic tumor (KCOT) and to correlate with its biological behavior. STUDY DESIGN Five claudins (-1, -3, -4, -5, and 7) were examined immunohistochemically in 25 KCOTs and compared with 10 dentigerous cysts (DCs) and 10 radicular cysts (RCs). R...

Inflamed Dentigerous Cyst: A Case Report and Review

Context: Developmental odontogenic cysts account for 25% of all odontogenic cysts of the jaw. They are commonly associated with impacted or embedded teeth like mandibular/maxillary third molar and maxillary canines. Dentigerous cyst (DC) is a common developmental odontogenic cyst, but its inflammatory variant is quite rare. Settings and design: The representative tissue received was 10% formali...
